Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are a group of eight friends from Newcastle University who thought it was about time that we undertook a challenge, pushed ourselves and raised money for deserving charities.
In June 2013, we plan to cycle from the Mall to Casablanca. The route is a little over 2000 miles which will take us through France, down the east coast of Spain and across the Gibraltar Strait to finish in Morocco. We cycle a minimum of 60 miles/day but aim to average between 80-90 miles/day over the course of five weeks, allowing time for 'rest days'.
We have chosen to start organising/planning this a year in advance so that we can raise a significant amount for our chosen charities. Along with our 'JustGiving' page we aim to organise and run various fund raising events over the course of the next year including a charity cricket match in September 2012.
Various members of the group all have a personal connection with each of our three chosen charities. 'Walking with the Wounded' is stated as our charity on this 'JustGiving' page as the other two charities we have chosen are not as well recognised amongst the general public. These charities are: 'The Vanessa Grant Trust', a charity which invests heavily in the schooling of children in Rongai, Kenya and the 'Mbekweni township and cricket school', an organisation which provides cricket coaching to a severely deprived area in the Western Cape of Africa.
The majority of funds raised will be donated to 'Walking with the Wounded' as our primary chairty and the remainder will be divided between the two smaller oraganisations who rely heavily upon charitable donations.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
We greatly appreciate any donation you chose to give, however big or small and will be happy to provide further information regarding the trip or the charities enabling you to see where your money has gone.
We will be keeping a blog regularly updated once we get nearer the time of departure and will also be making a video diary so it will be possible to keep up to date with our progress if you so wish.
Many thanks,
Fred Clark, Hugo Snape, Ben Gowing, Charlie Rose, Luke Lupton, Rupert Rudkin, Chris Dickins. (Bikeroccas)
